 Help decide what gets remembered

The Sounds of Australia is a collection that celebrates the recordings that have shaped our nation. It's a mixtape of moments that spark conversation, mark milestones, and reveal our shared history, sound by sound.

And this collection is made with you. You can now make a nomination for the Sound of Australia 2027.

It might be a song, a podcast, a radio broadcast, a speech, a sporting moment, a field recording, a movie or TV score, or something else entirely.

This year, recordings from 2016 and earlier are eligible for nomination.

Your nomination will help me and our expert panel understand which recordings still hold significance for Australians today.

Nominations close 31 July 2026. Happy listening!

Meagan Loader, NFSA Chief Curator

P.S. Need inspiration? Previous Sounds of Australia selections have included everything from community radio broadcasts and advertising jingles to Indigenous language recordings, political speeches and rare wildlife calls.
