CIMIC appoints Michael Wright as deputy CEO
MAJOR construction group CIMIC – formerly Leightons – has appointed CIMIC Group Mining and Mineral processing executive and Thiess managing director Michael Wright as group deputy CEO.
“Michael has almost 20 years’ experience at CIMIC Group, having held leadership positions across the group, in Australia and Asia,” CIMIC Group chief executive officer Adolfo Valderas said. “During his career, Michael has gained extensive expertise in engineering, construction, tunnelling, industrial and environmental services, telecommunications, utilities and mining.
“Most recently, he successfully built on our company’s competitive strength in the resources sector, expanding and diversifying our mining operations into new commodities and geographies.
“Michael’s appointment reflects these achievements and the confidence I have in his ability to support the leadership of CIMIC Group as we generate returns for shareholders by successfully delivering projects for our clients and providing safe, rewarding and fulfilling careers for our people.
“His appointment further demonstrates CIMIC’s ability to promote from within our strong leadership group, and confirms our approach of providing internal career development opportunities for our people.”
Mr Wright’s roles previously included managing construction, tunnelling and services teams, and executive roles including leading Thiess’ Australian Mining operations, Thiess’ Services business and CIMIC Group’s China and Mongolia business. Mr Wright joined CIMIC Group in 1998.
