Tasmanian retailers welcome Liberal commitment to small business
PEAK retail industry body the Australian Retailers Association Tasmania (ARA) welcome the Tasmanian Liberals’ $1 million dollar commitment to assisting small business and the retail sector adapt to a changing retail environment.
ARA Executive Director Russell Zimmerman said the ARA is also pleased to see the Liberals long term plan for Tasmanian retailers includes $240,000 over two years for a Tasmanian Retailer Development Program.
“This program will provide Tasmanian retailers with the information and tools they require to innovate, lift productivity and remain profitable in a competitive marketplace.
“We also congratulate the government’s commitment of $800,000 to enhance the Digital Ready for Retail Program and develop a strategic policy to aggressively target Tasmanian retail businesses that want to better understand how to operate online.
“The ARA will continue to work with Tasmanian retailers to help them get involved in such programs,” Mr Zimmerman said.
Tasmanian ARA Board Member Edward Harry from Leslees Menswear said he welcomed anything which will help Tasmanian retailers take on new challenges.
“Tasmanian retail has been struggling for a number of years and it will be great to have a program to help boost retail growth through skills in the state. The Tasmanian Retailer Development Program is going to help us take on competition and the changing market place,” Mr Harry said.
Since 1903, the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) has been the peak industry body representing Australia’s $265 billion retail sector, which employs over 1.2 million people. The ARA ensures retail success by informing, protecting, advocating, educating and saving money for its 5,000 independent and national retail members throughout Australia.
