Gold Coast health practitioner revolutionising healthcare through pathology, big data

GOLD COAST dietary expert, Simone Sleep’s Institute of Metabolic Syndrome and Research (IMSR) is leading the way internationally in helping health care practitioners improve diagnoses for chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, using big data technology.

The IMSR founder has created a new online health reporting system called IMSR Health Coach program which collates and interprets extensive pathology results, leading to faster diagnosis and treatment.

Ms Sleep is now at the launch stage and looking for investors to take the program internationally.

“I built IMSR Health Coach program specifically to help with the diagnosis and better treatment of patients with Type II diabetes with periodontal disease, but am now expanding for it to suit a variety of health problems,” Ms Sleep said.

“We have used the concept of big data to develop a reporting system that collects and analyses extensive pathology results in conjunction with information gathered about the patient’s lifestyle,” she said.

“This gives us a very accurate picture of the patient’s needs and internal chemistries. We can then develop a treatment program that is specific to that person.

“It’s much more effective than the one-size-fits-all approach that is currently used,” Ms Sleep said.

“What is so important is the interpretation of pathology results so that we get true accuracy when it comes to the patient’s health challenge.

“The concept of big data, which is essentially bringing together all the data we can about a potential customer and offering a service tailored to that person, is creating a stir in business markets all over the world.”

As far as Ms Sleep knew, this system is the first time big data has been applied in this way to healthcare.

“We really are innovators in this field and it has the potential to completely revolutionise how people with health issues are treated – not just if they have type two diabetes,” Ms Sleep said.

“The IMSR Health Coach reporting system is designed with the practitioner in mind and based on 14 years of clinical experience,” she said.

Ms Sleep said the breakthrough represented “an excellent opportunity for health care practitioners, patients and potential investors”.

The program collates and interprets extensive pathology results, screening patients using  the latest technology. Ms Sleep said this provided a more accurate diagnostic tool for practitioners.

The system also identifies periodontal disease, a condition that affects the teeth and is an early indicator of type two diabetes in most people.

The program is also highly educational in the way it assists in lifestyle changes, rather than just treatment to fix the symptom. Ms Sleep said IMSR’s system helps people understand and change the cause of the problem.

The systemised program guides both the practitioner and client.

From a commercial perspective, Ms Sleep said the software could be white labelled to suit the brand requirements of partner organisations.

The software system also has commercial capabilities to assist practitioners, with marketing tools to promote the practitioner’s business.

“It really is about creating a bottom up health system that looks at the entire story and creates a holistic solution for people,” Ms Sleep said.

“It will change the way we help patients and it’s raising the bar for health care.

“Aging populations and a rise in cases of chronic diseases are putting pressure on healthcare costs, as we seen with recent government cost cuts and taxes in the budget.”

Ms Sleep runs free monthly Type II diabetes, nutrition and dental information sessions on the Gold Coast “to help the local community understand how to prevent and manage this debilitating disease,” she said.

The development of the system has come out of both the professional and personal healthcare experiences of Simone Sleep.

A qualified and registered naturopath for more than 16 years, Ms Sleep was driven to work in the field after being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 28. She underwent four months of dental correction work – removing a root canal, rotten tooth and a mouth full of silver

Fillings – and today at age 42 she has overcome her health challenges having developed lifestyle change techniques that are incorporated in the IMSR Health Coach program.

Ms Sleep has studied internationally to further her understanding in biochemistry

nutrition, pathology and dental toxicology.  This has enabled her to create unique health programs with extensive blood chemistries that are not common knowledge in Australia.

Ms Sleep is also a past director of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society, a not-for-profit organisation that regulates all modalities of allied health care providers.

Ms Sleep said she is “passionate about health and driven to find ways in improving business practice and how we treat patients”.
