CinefestOZ Film Festival 2019 set for a high octane start!
Stars of the screen, film industry heavyweights and movie lovers from across Australia are arriving in the South West ahead of the 12th annual CinefestOZ Film Festival, which kicks off tomorrow night with the world premiere of GO!
Cast and crew from the hotly anticipated Australian film will walk the red carpet in Busselton, marking the first night of Australia’s premier destination film festival, which features five days of Australian features, short films, documentaries, industry workshops and more than 150 related events.
GO! is a coming-of-age story filmed on the shores and dirt tracks of Busselton, the heart of CinefestOZ. This heart-warming family film makes its premiere as a Film Prize finalist at Orana Cinemas, followed by a glittering celebration at the Festival Hub.
Stars of the film William Lodder, Anastasia Bampos, Darius Amarfio-Jefferson and Cooper Van Grootel will be joined on the red carpet by director Owen Trevor, writer Steve Worland and producers Sonia Borello and Jamie Hilton.
GO! is one of five films in the running for the coveted CinefestOZ $100,000 Film Prize. Other finalists include MIFF@CinefestOZ film H is for Happiness, Hearts and Bones, Judy & Punch and MIFF@CinefestOZ drama Measure for Measure, which will all get their West Australian premiere at the festival and feature in special In Conversation events.
Australia’s richest film prize will be decided by a five-member industry jury made up of Marta Dusseldorp, Glenn Gainor, Alex Dimitriades and Ben Young and Jury Chair, writer-director Rachel Ward, who will all be in attendance on the red carpet for Opening Night.
Joining Ward and her husband Bryan Brown as guests of this year’s festival will be some of the nation’s most well-known and loved film and television personalities including this year’s Screen Legend Kelton Pell, Emma Booth, Megan Hajjar Smart, Angus McLaren, Myles Pollard, Roz Hammond, Daisy Axon, Eddie Baroo and Zara Zoe and CinefestOZ Ambassadors Sophia Forrest, Travis Jeffery and Alex Williams.
“After months of planning we are back for the 12th instalment of our festival and we couldn’t be more excited,” CinefestOZ CEO Malinda Nixon said. “We are so very proud of the wonderful program we are presenting this year, which promises to the biggest and best yet.

CinefestOZ has cemented its reputation as Australia’s premier destination film festival and from 28 August to 1 September the seaside centres of Busselton, Bunbury, Dunsborough and the Margaret River wine region will come alive with a diverse program of events at some of the finest venues and spaces across the stunning South West region.
This year’s festival continues CinefestOZ’s proud tradition of showcasing the best of Australian film, boasting more than 150 film screening events, including 15 world, 11 Australian and 53 WA premieres.
Complementing the program of screenings and special events for audiences is CinefestOZ’s Industry Program, which will present local, national and international guests for three days of inspiring talks, exciting discussions, intense debates and fantastic networking opportunities; the Cinesnaps schools program, which creates opportunities to grow future audiences for Australian film, as well as encouraging the next generation of aspiring young industry professionals; and IndigifestOZ, which showcases quality Indigenous film works and engages film-goers through a combination of feature films in general screenings, short films and free community screenings.
