Australia's climate choices
|
|
As a lead into the 2022 State of the Nation conference, this livestream will examine the ‘what and the why’ of our climate choices, before exploring the ‘how’ at the 2022 conference. As Australia adjusts to our new commitment to become a NetZero economy by 2050, we face a series of choices. What are the key policy, investment and innovation decisions we need to make now as a nation to speed or slow our transition towards our NetZero target? In this livestream discussion, CEDA will explore these including:
- Are we being ambitious enough? Should we seek to deliver NetZero sooner than 2050?
- Acceleration of decarbonisation would make a more ambitious target possible. Should we choose to prioritise mature technologies such as EVs?
- How do we hasten the development and commercialisation of new technologies in harder-to-abate sectors such as agriculture?
- Are our policy makers well enough informed and agile enough to implement policy that successfully advances these choices?
The outcomes from this livestream discussion will feed into the State of the Nation 2022 conference, which will explore how we might deliver on these choices.
