Minister for Finance and Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment
Simon Birmingham has served as a Liberal Party Senator for South Australia since May 2007 and in August 2018 was appointed to the position of Minister Trade, Tourism and Investment as well as Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate. He was then appointed Minister for Finance and Leader of the Government in the Senate on 30 October 2020. Simon grew up near Gawler in Adelaide's north on his family’s small horse agistment property. Simon was educated at government schools before going on to study at the University of Adelaide where he completed a Masters of Business Administration. Prior to entering the Senate, Simon worked for a number of industry bodies, establishing particular experience in the wine, tourism and hospitality sectors – industries that are critical to South Australia's prosperity.
Frances Adamson

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
Frances Adamson has led the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as Secretary since 25 August 2016. Prior to her appointment as Secretary, Ms Adamson was International Adviser to the Prime Minister the Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP from November 2015. From 2011 to 2015, Ms Adamson was Ambassador to the People's Republic of China. She served in the Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong in the late 1980s during the early years of China's reform and opening. From 2001 to 2005, she was seconded as Representative to the Australian Commerce and Industry Office in Taipei. Ms Adamson has twice served in the Australian High Commission in London, as Deputy High Commissioner from 2005 to 2008 and as Political Counsellor from 1993 to 1997. She was Chief of Staff to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and then the Minister for Defence from 2009 to 2010. Ms Adamson is a member of the Export Finance Australia Board, the Advisory Board of the Australian National University's National Security College and the Asia Society Australia Advisory Council.

Tim Beresford is Austrade’s acting Chief Executive Officer. He was formerly the Deputy CEO of Global Client Services with strategic leadership for the promotion of trade and investment opportunities for Australia and operational responsibility for Austrade’s onshore trade and investment teams and offshore network. In 2016, Tim became Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Macquarie University with responsibility and oversight of operations and international student recruitment and engagement — having taken on the role following four years with Austrade including as Austrade’s Executive Director, Tourism, Investment, Education and Programs. Tim has also held positions as First Assistant Secretary of the Social Policy Division at Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, in senior line management and strategy at Westpac, and in the professional services sector across Europe, Asia and Australia (including five years at McKinsey & Co).
April Palmerlee

April joined AmCham in 2017 after a distinguished career in government, education, and the corporate sector. American-born, Palmerlee has lived in Sydney since 2003 and is a dual citizen. She received a BS from Georgetown University and a Master’s from Columbia University. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a member of Chief Executive Women. Immediately after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, she was appointed to the senior executive service of the US Department of State where she served as Senior Coordinator for International Women’s Issues (now called Ambassador-at-Large, equivalent to Assistant Secretary). Before that, she was a senior executive at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. She has also worked for couturier Oscar de la Renta, financial publisher The Bank Credit Analyst, and not-for-profit The Spanish Institute. She is currently on the selection committee for the Fulbright scholarship in NSW and the Georgetown University Australian and New Zealand Studies Board.

Alan Oppenheim has been Managing Director of Ego Pharmaceuticals since 1990 and is a graduate of Monash University’s Faculty of Science with first class honours. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Ego Pharmaceuticals was Australian Exporter of the Year in 2017 and has won other State based export awards which echoes the company’s growing percentage of business through global export. Leveraging Free-Trade-Agreements in South Korea and in China, Ego Pharmaceuticals is focused currently on solving a non-tariff trade barrier which an FTA should help to resolve.

Mike Tristram is the CEO of Trisco Foods, a five generation family business. Trisco Foods has had an incredible transformation from a sweet syrup business, into a burgeoning health and wellness corporation. With Mike’s leadership the business has seen enormous growth, due to its innovations and success with its Precise and Enprocal brands in the aged care industry. Mike holds an MBA from the Queensland University of Technology. Mike sits on the AiGroup Queensland Branch Advisory Council and advocates heavily for innovation, family business, and food businesses manufacturing in Australia. Mike has a keen interest in the intersections that occur between human intrinsic motivation, personality and intelligence as they relate to role success. Mike has had extensive experience in exporting and expansion of manufacturing and structuring in the USA, thanks to the innovational success of Trisco Foods. Mike lives in the leafy western suburbs of Brisbane with his beautiful wife, two children and a mad Ridgeback dog (plus a recent pandemic Cavoodle puppy.. didn’t everyone?)

Sally has over 20 years of professional experience dealing with Japan in both corporate and government roles and has spent over 12 years living in a number of Japan’s major cities and regions. Since joining Austrade in 2005, Sally has held the roles of Consul and Trade Commissioner based in Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka and finally in Tokyo, where she was Trade Commissioner at the Australian Embassy. Sally has also held the role of Austrade State Director for Queensland and the Northern Territory and is currently the Manager of the FTA Program.
